Well, the situatoin with Iran is actually a bit of a concern. Iran is one of China's biggest suppliers of oil. China is therefore quite friendly with Iran and has tended to support it during Security Council resolution negotiations. This is supposedly changing a little bit but it's clear that Iran and the US are not particularly friendly at the moment.
Iran is located in between Iraq and Afghanistan two countries in which the US has something like 100,000 troops, bases, planes and helicopters etc...therefore, there is no doubt that Iran feels threatened. Wouldn't you?
It is reported that Iran wants nuclear technology in order to make nuclear weapons. Iran says it wants nuclear technology for energy purposes. The truth is probably somewhere in between. I predict that the USA will very likely invade Iran and destroy it's technological advances if it feels that it doesn't trust the Iranian government. However, this invasion will be during the next Republican administration and not during Obama's tenure. Obama will be talking, negotiating and let's pray he gets somewhere. We don't need another conflict in the Middle East.
Sorry, these thoughts are all rambling!!

I'm worried by the situation.
Even if I would trust the Iranian government, I'm afraid other non-state actors will get their hands on the nuclear technology and use it for terrorist actions. Iran wouldn't use nuclear weapons I suppose, because it would be assured of retaliation. But non state actors dont have this fear, and have sometimes different views on life as we/I have.
So yes, I agree it's a concerning situation! And it's really hard to know the real facts and what's going on, what makes it hard to judge.

Yes precisely. The position of non-state actors is a problem. Essentially, this is the prolem in the war in Afghanistan/Pakistan and Iraq!

Good to hear such an elaborate view on Iran and the region! Still so shocked to hear these stories about the likelyness of war. Aren't there enough examples that an invasion in these countries isn't a sustainable sollution?!
