that sounds good, I like reading classics but I should read them a lot more. Just read Jane ayre and a book which in dutch is called zout op mijn huid (salt on my skin) such a romantic story but enfuriating at the same time. I love and hate stories in witch you so identify with the caracters that you get angry about their life
choices.
Anyone any good suggestions for my next book?

I started "The Art Of Loving" by Erich Fromm.
The first edition was in 1956, but his point is still current.
The book contains an idea of what Love actually is.
Because it is not the feeling of butterflys in your stomage or the reddish color on your skin when you meet somebody you like.
It is a way of living. Fromm says our culture starts to loose the individuality because we try to become all equal and stop being indiduals.
If we want to be ourself we need to feel ourself and start to think ourself.
I really like the book (i read it in my native language) because he doesn't try to use a snobbish language. It is easy to understand and i thought he brings some good points, where i could learn something for myself.
[of course there are parts he uses some arguments i do not agree with him, but i think to myself that it wrote it in a time where even a smart brain as he was couldn't get out of his skin (e.g. the way he define homosexuality and the equal rights for woman)]
I see you guys are interested in love stories, maybe you'll be interested about your own way of loving.
I realy recommend it.

I never heard about the Art of Loving, but it sounds quite good! Especially that love is a way of living... Maybe I will read it after I finished the one I'm reading right now: the World is Flat. A classic too I suppose!
Had it already for two years, but forgot it at my mum's and just found it agais. Believe it will be a great book!

The World is Flat is on my 'to read list' for quit a while now. I should start in it!
The Art of Loving sounds really interesting too especially because it not only gives you a new perspective on society but also gives you a view on what the view of the society in 1956 was.

Im reading The plot against America by Philip Roth; its about an american jewish family during the second world war, only instead of Roosevelt here is an isolationist, nazi loving president in the white house. Really interesting!!

That book sounds really interesting Floor!
I got a lot of inspiration for books to buy, my new bookshelves are still empty
I'm reading in between the World is Flat, a Dutch book. It's called Nietsche and Kant are reading the papers, from Rob Wijnberg. Philosophical essays about today's society... quite interesting! And easy to read in the train.

I haven't read Emma but I've seen a part of the movie a week ago (that is, if you mean the Jane Austen book) Would you recommend the book?

On the contrary to you all, I'm reading something modern right now:
What is the What by Dave Eggers. Its a book about a boy from Sudan, who tells about his life, fleeing from Sudan, the risk of child soldiers, the life in refugee camps and finally arriving in America. It's very impressive and shocking to read, but I think it is important to read it. Furthermore it is a gripping story

Oeh Floor that books sounds so good! I'm getting so much inspiration for books from this topic
I'm reading a dutch book now, it's called: of hoe waarom, which means or (or whether) how when. It's a modern book, a bit crazy but I like it a lot until so far!

At the moment I'm reading The thousand autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell.
It's funny to read an English book about some Dutch history
